How do you monetize a newsletter with a sponsorship sales agency?
A sponsorship sales agency sells your ad slots to brands for a fee or a cut. Few take newsletters: BuySellAds' Carbon team works by application with no published fee, and SponsorGap's managed plan is $999 a month plus a 10% success fee. Book a Sponsor pitches brands on a plan from $19 a month, with no commission.
Book a Sponsor (bookasponsor.com) pitches brands to sponsor newsletters. We make it, so read its rows with that in mind.
Who sells newsletter sponsorships for you
For a newsletter owner who doesn't want to sell ads, these are the options that do some or all of the selling. The last column is what each takes from one median main slot in a newsletter under 5,000 subscribers ($150).
| Who | What it does | Price | Who it takes | Its cut of one slot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BuySellAds (Carbon) | Its team pitches your inventory to sponsors and runs the campaign | Not published; you apply | Publishers with newsletters, websites or podcasts; mostly tech advertisers | Not published |
| SponsorGap's managed plans | Its team builds your sales pipeline and runs outbound for you | $999 a month plus a 10% success fee, or $2,999 a month | Newsletters that can carry $999 a month | $15 of a $150 slot, on top of the $999 |
| Paved Marketplace | Brands book the placements you list; Paved invoices and pays out | Free to join | 50,000+ subscribers | A revenue share, rate not published |
| Passionfroot network | Its brand network sends deals to your storefront | Free for creators, no monthly fee | Newsletters and other channels (YouTube, LinkedIn, X, Instagram, TikTok, podcasts) | $22.50 of a $150 slot it brings you |
| Book a Sponsor | Finds the ad buyer and emails the brand daily; you close | $1 card check gets 200 emails, then a plan from $19/mo (Starter $19 a month for up to 600 emails a month, Kit $49 a month for up to 1,500 emails a month, Growth $99 a month for up to 3,000 emails a month) | Any list size; adult newsletters refused | None |

What an agency cut costs at your size
A cut is the same share whatever the list size, so it weighs most on small lists. At 10% a newsletter under 5,000 subscribers gives up $15 of a $150 slot, and one from 5,000 to 19,999 gives up $30 of $300. SponsorGap's managed plan also charges $999 a month, which is 6.7 median slots under 5,000 subscribers before the cut.
Selling is mostly sending. In Book a Sponsor's own sending, about one in 165 pitches to brands with a sign they buy newsletter ads got a yes (30,902 pitches, 27 August 2026 to 6 October 2026). An agency's value is that it sends those emails and closes what comes back.
When an agency is worth it
- Worth it on a large list where one deal is worth thousands, and you want contracts, billing and renewals handled. BuySellAds handles contracts and billing; Paved invoices and pays out.
- Not worth it yet under 50,000 subscribers, where Paved's Marketplace won't take you and a cut of a $150 slot is small. A pitching service or a database fits better.
- Skip it if brands already write to you. A booking page such as Paved's free Booker or a management tool runs the deals you have for a few percent.
Where an agency still beats Book a Sponsor
- It closes. An agency negotiates the price and signs the brand. Book a Sponsor stops at the yes, and you do the rest.
- It handles the money. Invoicing, contracts and payouts run through BuySellAds or Paved. Book a Sponsor takes no bookings or payments, so you send the bill yourself (the free invoice template helps).
- It brings buyers who are already shopping. Brands book through Paved's marketplace, and BuySellAds sells to the tech advertisers it runs campaigns for. Book a Sponsor's pitches are cold email, and most brands won't answer.
What this page doesn't show
- Agencies that don't publish a price or a minimum aren't priced here. We read each vendor's pages and didn't apply to any of them.
- The $150 median is a printed list price from 74 newsletters; your slot may sell for more or less.
Questions
What does a newsletter ad sales agency charge?
Few publish it. BuySellAds doesn't publish its fee, and Paved doesn't publish its revenue share. SponsorGap's managed outreach is $999 a month plus a 10% success fee, or $2,999 a month. Passionfroot takes 15% of deals its network brings you. Each was read on its own pages, dates under Sources.
Will an agency take a newsletter with a small list?
Most won't say. Paved's Marketplace asks for 50,000 subscribers and BuySellAds takes publishers on application. Under 5,000 subscribers the median main slot is $150, so a 10% cut is $15 a slot, which leaves an agency little to work with. A service with no minimum, such as Book a Sponsor, takes any list size.
Does Book a Sponsor close the deal like an agency?
No. It finds the person who buys the ads, emails the brand from its own mailboxes and hands you the reply. You agree the price, send the invoice and run the ad. It takes no bookings or payments.
Is a sales agency better than a marketplace?
An agency sells for you, so it works when brands aren't looking for you yet. A marketplace waits for brands to find your listing and usually costs nothing until a deal closes. The fees page works each marketplace's cut on the same $150 placement.
