Where the rates come from

321 newsletters print a main-slot price for one issue and a list size of 500 or more on their advertise page or booking storefront. Each counts once, at its cheapest main slot, and the prices were read on September 29, 2026. For 12,000 subscribers the middle half of those prices runs $200 to $675, and $350 sits in the middle, about $29.97 per 1,000 subscribers.

Secondary and classified rates come from newsletters that list both: a second slot in the same issue lists at a median 59% of that newsletter's main slot, and a classified at 40%. For context, 764 brands sponsored 270 business newsletters in the last 12 months.

What counts: a price for one placement in one issue or send, in US dollars and printed on the page. Website, print, social and event ads, bundles and prices by the week or month are left out. Treat the result as a starting point and move it toward the high end if your click rate is strong.

your list falls in the 5,000 to 19,999 band: median main slot $310, 96 newsletters

What goes in a newsletter media kit

A sponsor skims a kit to decide whether to reply, so it leads with numbers: subscribers, open rate, click rate and send frequency. Then one line on who reads it, because a brand is buying a specific audience. After that, each placement with its length and price, the brands that have run before, and one contact. Keep it to a page and update it when your numbers change.

Media kit or proposal?

The media kit is the standing summary you send to anyone who asks. A sponsorship proposal is written for one brand: it adds the brands in your niche, the booking terms and a next step. You can keep one kit and write a short proposal for each deal.

Questions

What is a newsletter media kit?

A one-page summary a sponsor reads before they decide to buy: who reads the newsletter and how many, what placements you sell and what they cost, which brands have run before, and who to contact. Sponsors often ask for it first, so having it ready shortens the reply.

What should a newsletter media kit include?

Subscribers, open rate and click rate, how often you send, one line on who reads it, each placement with its length and price, past sponsors, and a contact. The kit above has all of them. A proposal adds terms and a next step; the proposal template covers that.

How much should I charge in a media kit?

For 12,000 subscribers the middle half of newsletters that list a main-slot price ask $200 to $675, with $350 in the middle. That comes from 321 newsletters that print a one-issue main-slot price and a list size, read September 29, 2026. The rates in the kit above use that model and the Business adjustment (1.04 times the all-niche price, 32 newsletters).

How much less is a secondary placement or a classified?

In the newsletters that list both, a second slot in the same issue lists at a median 59% of the main slot (104 newsletters) and a classified at 40% (160). A dedicated send lists at about 2.3 times the main slot (98 newsletters).

How long should a media kit be?

One page. A sponsor skims it to answer three questions: who reads it, what does a placement cost, and who else has paid. Anything beyond that belongs in the pitch email.
